Dhaka- (UNB) – The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council in a meeting yesterday approved 11 development projects involving Tk 3728.55 crore, including Tk 489.64 crore in project aid.


ECNEC chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina chaired the 99th meeting of ECNEC under this government’s tenure held in NEC Conference Room at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar yesterday (Tuesday).


The approved projects are: collection of jeep and speedboats for the Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNO), modernization of Bangladesh Institute of Marine Technology, establishment of five Women Technical Training Centers in Rajshahi, Khulna, Chittagong, Sylhet and Barisal, modernization and upgrading of the 200-bed BDR Hospital at Pilkhana, Dhaka, to 300-bed one, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission’s Research Development and Training project (revised), stipend for the secondary-level (class six to ten) girl students (third amendment), Barisal, Patuakhali, Jhalakati and Barguna Small Holder Support Project, Park (Uddyan) Development Project (second phase), construction of bridge, including link road, on river Rupsha and Khulna bypass road, construction of some important feeder roads and bridges in greater Sylhet district (parts of Roads and Highways and LGED) and Collection of 100 meter-gauge (MG) Tank Wagons.


Overall situation of the Maiddhyapara Hard-rock Mine Project undertaken by Energy and Mineral Resources department, reports on the problems arising during its implementation and the Country Procurement Assessment Report (CPAR) came up for discussion.


Jute Research Reinforcement Project involving Tk 9.41 crore, approved by State Minister for Planning Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, was placed before the ECNEC meeting for appraisal.


Finance Minister Shah AMS Kibria, Education Minister ASHK Sadique, Water Resources Minister Abdur Razzaq, Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury, Science and Technology Minister Noor Uddin Khan, Communications Minister Anwar Hossain, Labour and Public Works Minister MA Mannan and State Minister for Planning Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir attended the meeting.


Cabinet Secretary, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Secretaries to the Ministries of Finance, Planning, Education and Agriculture, members of the Planning Commission, IMED Secretary, and secretaries for the concerned ministries and senior officials concerned were, among others, present in the meeting.
